If you are in Boston for only one day, you might want
to start with a trolley tour. Hop aboard one of the orange and green
Old Town Trolleys for
an informative and entertaining trip into Boston's past. The trolley
conductor allows you to get on and off the trolley for a closer look
at over twenty stops. One ticket covers a full tour, whether it takes
an hour or all day. Another fun tour is the Boston
Duck Tours, which covers land and water. The amphibious vehicles,
designed and produced during World War Two for the landing of troops
and supplies on beaches, travel throughout the town and then enter the
Charles River for a look at Boston's skyline. After the trolley tour, go for a stroll through the Public
Gardens and take a ride on our famous Swan
Boats. Don't forget to stop in at The
Bull and Finch Pub, the inspiration for the television show
Cheers, which is located on the Beacon Hill side of the
Public Gardens. Walk along Beacon Street and admire the historic homes
of Beacon Hill.
At the Park Street subway station, you can take the subway to Faneuil Hall for an
afternoon of fun, food and shopping. The open air market is a great place to see
street performers, sample all kinds of food in the extensive food court, shop at
the carts or one of the many unique little shops, or just sit and people-watch. After exploring Faneuil
Hall, meander across the street to the waterfront for the beautiful
view. If you have time, the Aquarium
is fascinating and the penguins are especially adorable. After the waterfront and the Aquarium, wander through
the historic North End. Countless
Italian restaurants line the narrow, winding roads (this is definitely
an area for walking, not driving). Any restaurant you try is almost
guaranteed to be first-rate. Two that we specially recommend are Maurizo's
(364 Hanover Street) and Pat's Pushcart (61 Endicott Street).
If you feel like you can manage dessert after the feast you are bound
to have, try the pastries at Mike's
Pastry (300 Hanover Street).
