For your second day, take the subway to the Hynes Convention
Center stop and walk up Newbury
Street, the "Rodeo Drive of the East." Explore the eclectic
mix of shops, from exclusive boutiques to second-hand clothing stores.
The street is also home to many art galleries exhibiting everything
from classic cartoons to the Old Masters. After Newbury Street, why
not visit one of the many museums in Boston? There are so many to choose
from. The Isabella
Stewart Gardner Museum, located near the Back Bay Fens, can
be reached by taking the Green Line E Train to the Museum Stop. Mrs.
Gardner was an avid art collector who filled her entire house with priceless
paintings, antiques, and artifacts. The will that she left stipulated
that her house, now museum, would remain exactly as it was when she
lived there. The museum is particularly well known for its beautiful,
flower-filled inner court. The Museum
of Fine Arts can also be
reached at the Museum stop on the E Train. The museum hosts numerous
exhibitions throughout the year, but the permanent collection itself
is always worth a trip. With a collection ranging from ancient Egyptian
to modern art, there is something for everyone. The Museum
of Science, which can be reached by taking the Green Line to
the Science Park stop, is fun for the whole family, especially children.
The interactive displays make learning about science exciting. -- the
kids will learn without even realizing it! The Museum also offers laser
shows and a planetarium. Then there's the Children's
Museum, which can be reached by taking the Green Line to the
Red Line, the South Station stop. The museum is filled with interactive
displays that teach children while they play. This museum is especially
good for younger children. Take the bus or the subway back to Brookline for dinner
in one of the many Coolidge Corner area restaurants. We recommend the
Coolidge Corner
Clubhouse for a menu that contains a little bit of everything,
Takeshima's for excellent Japanese cuisine and Bombay
Bistro for Indian. All are located on nearby Harvard Avenue. After dinner, explore a few of the many boutiques in
Coolidge Corner or see a film at the Coolidge
Corner Theater.
